OPEN AUDITIONS

MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATRE

Muskego Performing Arts Center

Monday August 13, 2012

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

***Children must be present for the full two hour audition***

The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for 40 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with 47 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love.  Also included in the residency are three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Actor/Directors. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project.  MCT's mission is the development of lifeskills in children through participation in the performing arts

  • This production is brought to you as a community service by the Muskego Performing Arts Council.
  • Auditions are open to children entering first through eighth grades (2012-13).
  •  Opportunities for 50-60 student cast members plus four student Assistant Directors.
  •  This a group audition - no advance preparation is necessary - but a smile never hurts.  Auditioning does not guarantee a part in the show, but the audition is required for participation in the production.
  •  Please remember that everyone must stay the entire two hours of the audition.
  •  A $30.00 per child participation fee ($60.00 family maximum) for the week will be required.
  • Principle characters must attend all rehearsals including Monday afternoon after the audition.  Other cast members are required to attend all rehearsals (Tues. - Fri.) unless otherwise notified after the audition.
  •  Three theatre enrichment workshops will also be offered during the week in the evening at no charge.  Specific times, topics, and registration will be announced soon.
SHOW SYNOPSIS

The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents Cinderella, an original adaptation of the classic fairy tale. A pumpkin coach, Prince Charming, a glass slipper and a dream come true are woven together by the magic of a Fairy Godmother in this enchanting musical. When Cinderella’s stepsisters try to keep Cinderella from attending the ball, the Fairy Godmother enlists the help of the Mice and the Pumpkins and is able to transform Cinderella just in time for the big event. Also featured in the production are Cleo the Cat, Fido the Dog, the Lords and Ladies, the Town Criers, the King and the Beggars. Experience the unique twist the Missoula Children’s Theatre puts on this classic story.

I Have a Dream: The Life and Times of Martin Luther King Jr.

MPAC sponsors "I HAVE A DREAM -- The Life and Times of Martin Luther King Jr."

On Monday, 01/30/12, the Muskego High School Performing Arts Center became a place for a short trip back in time and American history for many of our area children.  Two matinees of I Have a Dream – The Life and Times of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were performed for a combined audience of 1,350 Muskego and other area elementary and middle school students.

The national tour company Theatre IV delighted the student audiences with their performance.  The story told of Dr. King’s work and philosophy of non-violent protest in the effort of promoting civil rights in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  Students were inspired by the story of this great leader's struggle and his dream of lifting, in his words, "…our nation from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood."

The event was sponsored by the Muskego Performing Arts Council (MPAC).  MPAC is a non-profit group of community volunteers whose mission is to bring quality professional arts and educational events to the community.

Another MPAC sponsored event is the annual national tour of Missoula Children’s Theatre which will take place in August for the sixth consecutive year.  This summer’s production will be Cinderella.  Please watch for more production and audition information which will be announced in May.

If you have an interest in the performing arts and would like to become involved with MPAC, please contact Steven Krause, MHS PAC Manager/Technical Director at (262) 971-1790, ext. 4845.
